EMDR at Mind Body Wellness
Eye movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
A therapeutic modality for folks who are healing from trauma, feeling stuck, and seeking relief
What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. When trauma occurs, challenging memories can get stuck in the body and mind, and can show up as flashbacks, traumatic responses, and even relationship challenges. During EMDR, your therapist will guide you through a process called bilateral stimulation, which activate both sides of the brain and body. This is similar to REM (what the body does during deep sleep).
EMDR can help you work through trapped memories that make you feel stuck, such as traumatic or challenging events and patterns. Once you can reorganize your memories, you can relate to them differently, therefore creating more mental freedom.
Who can benefit from EMDR?
- Anyone! People who have experienced traumatic events (even if you aren't ready to talk about it)
- Emergency responders
- Adults, teens, college age students, children
- Individuals trying to navigate relationships impacted by past trauma
- Folks who have experienced childhood trauma or adverse childhood events
- Those suffering from insomnia, unresolved trauma, medical problems and medical trauma, and/or grief
